BOLD Tower Amsterdam

Completion Date: 2022
Location: Amsterdam, The Netherlands
Partners: VORM, OZ

A bold design, powered by the sun

BOLD is not just a name – it’s a statement. This 80-metre-high residential tower in Amsterdam North redefines how energy and aesthetics can merge. Located right behind Central Station, the building stands out with its sharp lines, dark tones and high-tech presence.

Central to that identity: the solar façade, seamlessly integrated using custom ISSOL® Noctis Velvet panels. Here, solar energy isn’t hidden on the roof – it’s proudly part of the architecture.

ISSOL® Noctis Velvet: performance with depth

For BOLD’s sleek, deep-black look, the project team selected ISSOL® Noctis Velvet: a matte, fully opaque BIPV panel optimised for vertical installation.

While delivering strong photovoltaic output, Noctis Velvet also offers a refined visual texture – soft, even, and built to last. The panels form a continuous, energy-generating skin that blends into the architectural vision without compromise.

An integrated energy approach

BOLD combines multiple energy-generating technologies:

  • Façade-integrated solar panels by ISSOL®
  • 1,800 m² of PowerWindows by PHYSEE
  • Rooftop PV modules

Together, they contribute to an impressive Energy Performance Coefficient (EPC) of –0.1209 – making BOLD one of the few residential towers in the Netherlands with a net-positive energy balance.
